| Guan Yu’s Birthday (Celebration of Emperor Guan Yu’s Birthday) |  | Emperor Guan Yu’s birthday for the year 2023 is celebrated on Thursday, August 10. We welcome you to join us in the annual celebration of Emperor Guan Yu’s birthday, born 160 AD on the 24th day of the sixth month of the lunar calendar. Offerings and traditional Chinese performances such as the lion and dragon dances are made to the mighty protector to bring prosperity and security to the Chinese community and its businesses. The procession of Emperor Guan Yu portable shrine tours throughout Yokohama Chinatown making a blessing at each storefront altar accompanied by Ma Zhu, the beloved Goddess of the Sea. |
